Hunger Games Simulator Wiki

The "Hunger Games Simulator" is a series of web-based simulation games that allows players to create their own rosters, as well as use tributes from the 74th and 75th Hunger Games, for a virtual arena deathmatch using custom avatar images and names for the tributes. It is inspired by the 2012 American science fiction film and novel, both of the same name, by Suzanne Collins, in which boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 18 must take part in the titular Hunger Games, a televised annual event in which the "tributes" are required to fight to the death until there is only one survivor.

General Premise[]

In all Hunger Games simulators, it is mainly a 24 tribute "kill-or-be-killed" race where they attempt to survive the Hunger Games, in a premise similar to the books. In all Hunger Games simulators, there is an average of around 0 - 3 deaths per day, which is also subjected to change depending on the simulator the creator uses. After few or several days depending on the duration, the last tribute standing will be crowned as the Victor, a tribute who wins their Hunger Games.

Due to the violent nature of the Hunger Games, this simulator this is the only one which requires the users to agree to terms and be either older than 13 or have parental permission to use it.

General Format and Mechanics[]

One of the common features of a Hunger Games simulator are death messages. These messages are announced throughout the duration of the simulation season, which details on the death of the tribute, whether by natural causes, health-related causes or by other tributes. In simulators with customizable events, it is required to have at least one Event that has a tribute dying, regardless of whether other tributes survive the event, or it will use the default list of events.

All tributes of the season are placed in twelve different categories, labelled as "Districts" akin to their inspiration. Each District contains two tributes, which can be one boy and one girl, two boys, two girls or any gendered and non-binary tributes depending on the creator's wish.

After the end of the day or depending on the simulator, it will feature statistics, announcements and images detailing on the progress of the season's run. This generally includes the tribute's status, the tributes who were killed or defeated in a day and points of tributes. This can either be a separate window or a separate tab.

It is possible to achieve a Hunger Games season that removes all violence, but this option is applicable to simulators with editable events.

Versions[]

This version of the Hunger Games Simulator is created in Ripred.net, a site for Hunger Games related roleplaying. Modeled identical to the books, the simulator contains 12 Districts, each containing 2 tributes. The names of the tributes can also be customized and can have alliances with each other. The alliance option contains only about 10 different alliances, and will influence on the tribute's survival rate.

The Hunger Games Simulator is also part of the Tools & Widgets section of the website, along with other similar simulators and calculators.

FEATURES:

  • Relatively simple and easy enough to comprehend
  • Has a toggle button for deaths caused by mutts and traps
  • Allows tribute to pair with each other by alliances
  • Customizable names
  • Contains a toggle button of allowing mutts or traps in the season

CONS:

  • Limited only to 24 tributes
  • Lacks gender options
  • Cannot add and edit events
  • Cannot use pictures
  • No non-fatal events
  • Events are bare and minimum
  • No known updates being released, which may deter people from using it

This version of a Hunger Games Simulator is created by Brantsteele, in the date December 25, 2014. The original idea is pitched by Jacob, which Brantsteele uses it to create the simulator it was known. This Hunger Games Simulator is the most well-known and popular out of the rest of the simulators, which is acclaimed for a complex "death simulator" as well as being highly customizable.

FEATURES:

  • Customizable events, including on the district names, non-fatal and fatal events and even arena events
  • Can adjust the overall tribute size (24, 36, 48)
  • Can adjust the death rate of the season (very high, high, medium, low)
  • Editing tribute cast now includes pictures for visual representation, gender, nicknames and death images
  • Death images can be replaced with Black & White (uses the main image and turns it to black and white), or crossed out images (where the death image will be an X mark)
  • Information such as fallen tributes and their status, which can be seen in a separate window
  • Contains Bloodbath and Feast events
  • Contains Arena events, events that can change the landscape and survival rate of all remaining tributes
  • Can adjust the appearance rate of the Arena and Feast events (normal, decrease)
  • Can save a season and making its code available
  • Can export the cast of a season for a future, unimplemented feature for an update

CONS:

  • Limited name characters
  • Genders limited only to "Male" and "Female"
  • Inputting events can be tedious and complex
  • Saved simulation seasons will be deleted within three months after last view. This can be remedied by making it "keep forever", which extends it to one year.

BUGS:

  • If no tribute dies during the Bloodbath, a glitched tribute will be added and contributed in the total number of defeated tributes. It is nameless and has no District number, while the image is an unloaded error. This happens if the first slain tributes happen after the Bloodbath.[1]

This version of a Hunger Games Simulator is made sometime in 2018. This version of the original Brantsteele Hunger Games Simulator is where it contains many features that are to be tested prior for it to be implemented, making it a testing ground for the features made by Brantsteele.
FEATURES:

  • Contains all features from the original feature, but are also polished and updated
  • Carries features from other simulators such as "Survivor", giving more choices and freedom for the creator
  • Casts can now be "Non-Binary" or "Neutered". Additionally, a single tribute can be considered as a "Pair", making it possible to have a tribute that is more than one per slot
  • Can add or remove a District and change the overall amount of tributes per District, either as a whole or individual District
  • Can import/export the whole cast, and once exported, can be edited while offline, however this requires the knowledge of the format used
  • Contains the Relationship feature, which can be enabled and disabled by the creator, and customized to suit the creator's purpose
  • Contains display option, which will change on how the season is being displayed throughout the run
  • Contains Endgame events, making it possible for a season to have more than one Victor or none at all
  • The number of tributes in one event has increased from 6 to 100
  • The event character limit has increased from 150 characters to 500 characters
  • Season names and description are implemented upon being saved as well as the option to delete the season
  • Additional options, such as changing of background and a dark mode

CONS:

  • Events that are affected by team-based relationships are much rarer to happen
  • Season codes from the original/outdated version cannot be passed through and vice versa
  • Due to testing and maintenance on-going, there is a possibility of the season to be removed, even saved seasons
  • If a season contains too many events, it cannot be resimulated. This is a bug and will be fixed. In the meantime, this can be worked around by repeatedly importing a cast from a text file.

This version of a Hunger Games Simulator is made sometime in 2020 and is hosted in Simublast. It runs similar to the Brantsteele Hunger Games Simulators, but with some additional visual and technical differences that stands it out from them. Additionally, it also contains some features that are still in the experimental phase of its main and popular counterpart as well as a brief course description of the simulator.

The version also differentiates from both Brantsteele versions, as it has no set of events with every saved season, making it possible to have different runs with the same tribute, similar to the re-simulated Barntsteele seasons with same casts. Additionally, the mechanics of making events appears to run on RNG (Random Number Generator) per turn of events.
FEATURES:

  • Contains some elements from the original and experimental Brantsteele Hunger Games
  • Statistics are now visible at the bottom of the season, detailing on the overall tributes along with their kills
  • Contains the "Preference" feature, allowing the tribute that the creator prefers to gain a slight boost of increased survival rate
  • Option to manually kill or revive tribute
  • Has a preset amount of tributes to use
  • Events are more descriptive than Brantsteele versions

CONS:

  • Limited name characters
  • Tributes per district are limited to two
  • Cannot add and edit events
  • Genders limited only to "Male" and "Female"
  • You cannot go back to previous events (Feature added as of an unknown date)

BUGS:

  • No matter how many times you choose, you cannot manually revive the tribute of your choosing (Fixed as of February 24, 2021)
    • Although fixed, the revived tribute will appear in the next set of events (Issue (?) found: February 24, 2021)
  • If the last surviving tribute is killed, the simulator will go on indefinitely
  • Season codes cannot be loaded, causing the default tributes ("74th Hunger Games Season") to be used. (Issue found: February 2021; caused by coding errors)[2]
    • Additionally, adding and reducing districts are not functioning along with the image of replacing the tributes' images. (Issue found: February 2021)
    • Manually reviving/killing[3] a tribute will crash the run. (Issue found: February 15, 2021; Fixed as of February 24, 2021)
      • Further more, using the revive command will cause the button on all of the tributes to disappear, following by an error code. (Issue found: February 20, 2021; Fixed as of February 24, 2021)
    • Season run will be looping back to the reaping. (Issue found: February 15, 2021)
      • Season lasts only for 2 days/1 day. (Issue found: February 20, 2021)[4]
  • There is a chance that 2 tributes might remain there forever (Issue fixed in February 2020)[5]
  • The first tribute in District 1 is immune to fatal events (Issue fixed in December 2021)[6]

This version of a Hunger Games Simulator is made sometime in 2021 and is hosted in Github. It runs similar to the Brantsteele Hunger Games Simulators, but with some additional mechanics and technical differences that distinguishes it from the other versions. While it has fewer features from the Brantsteele versions, it is also replaced with features and functions that are unique to it.
FEATURES:

  • Relatively simple and easy enough to comprehend
  • Overall tribute size can be manually input with no limits, with a required minimum of 2 tributes
  • Contains the "Two champions allowed?" option, making it possible for a season to have 2 champions
  • Tributes are slightly detailed, feature three variables that are shown each time it reaches to the Tributes section
  • Events are far more varied, containing further outside references and shoutouts
  • Events are shorter, which tends to only be "Bloodbath" and "Day" categories

CONS:

  • Does not have a "Save" option
  • Cannot add and edit events
  • Cannot use images
  • Genders limited only to "Male" and "Female"
  • You cannot go back to previous events

BUGS:

  • Having more than 10,000 can cause the webpage to suffer loading glitch and may crash the webpage. Due to having no tribute limits, it is recommended for creators to limit the number of tributes.

This version of a Hunger Games Simulator is made sometime in 2022 and is hosted in Nguh. It runs similar to the Brantsteele Hunger Games Simulators, but with some additional mechanics and technical differences that distinguishes it from the other versions.
